Biomedica Conference 2025

BioMedica is the largest scientific meeting for medical scientists, allied healthcare professionals and companies supporting healthcare delivery in Ireland and abroad.

This years event took place in the Convention Centre Dublin on March 19th-20th 2025 and there was great attendance from both staff and students from our joint MTU-UCC Biomedical Science programme.

Congratulations to our postgraduate students Aisling O Brien and Gavin Buckley, who were speakers at the conference, as well as many other postgraduate and undergraduate students that presented posters at the event.  In particular, well done to Caitlin Duffy (supported by Caroline Vaughan) who won second prize in the undergraduate poster competition.

A major highlight was the participation of two of our BSc Biomedical Science graduates, Ali Fitzgerald (supported by Francesca Bottacini, MTU) and Ailis Ryan (supported by Jerry Reen, UCC) in the Presidents prize competition.

This is a competition for final year Biomedical Science students across MTU, ATU and TU Dublin, and the award is presented by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM).

Both Ali and Ailis did an excellent job talking about their fourth-year research projects and congratulations to Ali, who won first prize.  She will now go on to compete for the Martin Nicholson Award at the annual European Association for Professions in Biomedical Sciences, and we wish her well.
